'dismantled banister no.1'
The piece was constructed within a set of unforeseen and very limiting circumstances that forced me to make impulsive and an almost automatic set of decisions, a way of working that was contrary to my usually very considered methodology. However, I found that these constraints then became an advantage and they prompted me to explore avenues that I may of not of explored given more time and facilities.
As within many other projects I have undertaken, I obtained a discarded and recycled item, a support structure, a banister, and viewed it in its fundamental form. I explored how I could then represent it in a new and counterproductive or counter intuitive manner, turning a support structure into an object that would directly repel or obstruct rather than support.
The piece was concerned with form, colour relationships and overall composition within a limited space. It utilised the differing levels available within the space and allowed me to explore multi-media instillation in a new way.
